As an independent school and registered charity, Havergal relies on philanthropic donations as an important source of financial support to offset operational expenses. Priority areas are identified each year and donors designate which areas they would like to support. From one-time donations to ongoing commitments, all gifts have an important impact on the advancement of Havergal.
Havergal Philanthropy impacts many annual and long term programs. The Guide to Giving describes our priority areas that enhance a student’s experience. Please review the guide for more insight into this year’s special fundraising initiatives that would benefit from your support.
Annual Giving Program
While tuition covers general school operations, your annual gifts support investments which help to maintain Havergal’s position as a pre-eminent school for girls. Havergal relies on the Annual Giving Program as an important source of financial support. Each year, we identify priorities for this funding to ensure the areas of greatest need are getting support. With your annual gift, we can inspire young learners to explore their passions.
We are truly grateful to the many members of our community who choose to make transformative gifts in support of our strategic priorities. These generous gifts, often pledged over multiple years, help to advance our school’s mission while at the same time providing a lasting legacy for the donor. Gifts of $25,000 and above are considered major gifts.
Naming opportunities beginning at $50,000 are available in both the Junior and Upper Schools, as well as in our outdoor spaces. To learn more about current funding priorities and available naming opportunities, please contact Annette Paul, Executive Director, Advancement, at [email protected] or 416-482-4704.
Planning for one’s legacy can be transformational. An estate plan’s purpose is to design your legacy now and outline your intentions for who will benefit from your estate in the future. Your plan will help honour your wishes and provide for your family and the organizations that are dear to you, such as Havergal. We, at the Havergal College Foundation, understand the importance of estate planning and offer the resource, A Guide to Planning Your Legacy. This guide assists with making the gift planning process understandable and provides insight into the types of planned gifts and common questions associated with estate planning.
Common planned gifts include:
Donors who choose to include Havergal in their estate plan, will recognized with membership into the Ellen Knox Society and will be listed in the annual Impact Report. To learn more about estate planning, please contact Annette Paul, Executive Director, Advancement, at [email protected] or 416-482-4704. Thank you for considering the impact your legacy will have on the future of education for students who attend Havergal.
Endowed funds ensure the long-term financial health of the school. An endowment is a fund that is held in perpetuity in order to build capital. The school spends a percentage of the income earned each year. Donors may contribute to enhance an existing fund or create a new one. A minimum of $100,000 is needed to create a new endowed fund and our investments currently sit at more than $26 million.
A tribute gift is a meaningful way to express your gratitude to a staff or faculty member or honour an Old Girl. If you would like to make a gift in honour of someone special, please contact Annette Paul, Executive Director, Advancement, at [email protected] or 416-482-4704.
