Athletics has always played a big part of Maddy’s life, which made choosing Havergal an easy decision for her because she was drawn to the school’s strong athletic program, sports-friendly campus and diverse co-curricular opportunities. Joining as a Grade 7 student, she spent her Upper School years on various soccer, hockey and ultimate teams and was awarded the Sportsmanship Cup in her senior year for demonstrating integrity, leadership and athletic ability. In the classroom, her favourite courses were Kinesiology, Leadership and Introduction to Social Sciences, which focuses on sociology, anthropology and psychology. These subjects helped her explore the science and psychology of sport, leading her to focus one of her final projects on the effects of anxiety on athletes, particularly the pressures faced by girls in sports. Today, Maddy continues her studies in sports management and leadership at Western University, where she is pursuing a unique five-year dual degree in Business and Kinesiology. She hopes to continue working in the world of athletics in the future so she can continue to advocate for women in sport and inspire younger generations of girls to get involved in athletics.
