Jana Kalbasi

Jana’s Havergal journey began in Junior Kindergarten, igniting in her a curiosity for discovery and learning. In Grade 3, she advocated for Havergal’s first Nowruz celebration—starting a tradition that continues today. In the Upper School, Jana played percussion with the Symphonic Band, regularly performed on the drums at assemblies and was involved in the Science Club and HOSA. Completing the AP Capstone opened her eyes to new perspectives and built her confidence in tackling complex, unfamiliar topics. In Grade 10, Jana went on exchange to Argentina, where she challenged herself not to speak English with her host family, transforming a language barrier into an opportunity to immerse herself in Spanish. Driven by a curiosity about medicine and oncology, she participated in Havergal’s Pre-Med micro-credential, Havergal’s Next Surgeon program and the Harvard Student Agencies summer pre-med course. In the summer before her Grade 12 year, she volunteered at the Scarborough Health Research Institute, where she supported the development of various lab projects. In her graduating year, Jana was the Wellbeing Prefect, championing community wellness with the slogan “support is a team sport.” Since graduation, Jana has been studying Health Sciences at McMaster University.
