Athletics Philosophy

We believe that every student has the capability to engage in Havergal’s athletics program.

Our program has the breadth to meet the needs of a diverse group of students, and the depth to challenge students at all stages of development. It also develops in all students: self-confidence, sportsmanship, commitment, perseverance, co-operation, responsibility, resilience, self-efficacy and pride in representing the school.

Athletics Program

Havergal’s Athletics offers a program from Grades 1 to 12.  There are three distinct programs including Squads, Squad Teams and Havergal Teams. These programs provide a continuum of development for our students school-wide.

  • Squads: Squads are available to students in Grades 1 to 3.  This non-competitive athletics program is focused on developing the FUNdamentals of sport.
  • Squad Teams: Squad Teams are available to students in Grades 4 to 6. Girls in this program begin training according to more formalized methods with an emphasis on sports skills. Squad Teams focus on the sports that the Junior School participates in Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) while providing additional development and preparation for Havergal Teams.
  • Havergal Teams: Havergal Teams are available to students in Grades 5* to 12. Our teams compete in CISAA. Senior school teams may qualify for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) championships.  Havergal College fields more than 75 teams over the school year. (*Grade 4 students have the opportunity to participate on both the Cross-Country and Track & Field Teams.)

Intra-School Athletics

The goal of the intra-school athletics program is to provide a variety of opportunities for all students to stay active and develop a lifelong commitment to healthy, active living, while having fun. Students are given the opportunity to participate in intramurals and other athletic events school-wide throughout the year.
