As Head of the Philosophy Club, Sophie has a passion for discussing life’s fundamental questions with others. Joining Havergal in Grade 7, she played the cello and double bass and was involved in various co-curricular activities, including the Swim Team, Basketball Team, Math Club and Asian Student Alliance. She earned Havergal’s Global Learning and Leading Diploma after three years focusing on different global issues and their impact on society. Outside of school, Sophie collaborated with friends to run an after-school STEM program at a local school, sharing her love of science with younger students. In Grade 11, she participated in the University of Toronto Math Mentorship program, working with a PhD student on a complex research project. Throughout her years at Havergal, Sophie demonstrated that she thrives at the intersection of diverse disciplines, earning awards at graduation for being the top student in her Physics, World History and Philosophy courses, and winning the Governor General’s Award for having the highest overall average of the graduating class. She is currently studying Mathematics at Harvard University, with plans to pursue research and a future career in academia while remaining interested in the interdisciplinary applications of mathematics.
