Naomi McDonald

Joining Havergal’s Boarding School in Grade 9, Naomi knew it would be the perfect place for her to develop the skills for success. A natural leader and mentor, she created opportunities to connect with younger students, including the Middle School 3D Printing Club and the Junior School PlayPals recess program. Academically, she enjoyed studying Mandarin and was thrilled to travel on a school trip to Beijing. In her senior year, she was elected School Captain and demonstrated leadership in this role by attending different weekly student council meetings to gather feedback and make improvements. She was also the Co-Head of the Black Students Association and was honoured to host Canadian icon Dr. Jean Augustine at an assembly. Outside of Havergal, Naomi self-published a multi-perspective chapter book, Midnight Warriors, and was involved in FIRST Robotics as both a competitor and a volunteer, teaching robotics to neurodivergent and visually impaired children. Participating in Havergal’s Next Surgeon Program and the Student Advancement Research Program at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children solidified her ambition to study medicine. Her extraordinary mix of leadership, ingenuity and dedication to community ultimately earned her the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she is studying neuroscience.
