Dear Community,

As a close community, we take pride in our positive culture, anchored on our values. We strive to nurture trust and respect, mindful that as a school it is relationships that sit at the heart of our endeavours.

Havergal does not share information on the particulars regarding students, parents or members of our community. However, as you may be aware, a story has just been featured in the Toronto Sun (see link) related to a legal matter involving Havergal and the parents of one of our students. Although the names of the parties involved and the nature of the legal action is contained in the article, we will continue to respect the privacy of all members of our community and not reference their names.

I can confirm that Havergal will refute and defend the allegations made against the school and the parties involved. We conducted investigations into the alleged bullying and are satisfied that no bullying of the student occurred at the school as alleged in the statement of claim.

Havergal takes allegations of bullying very seriously. The school does not tolerate bullying within the student population and prides itself on fostering and maintaining collegial and caring conditions. As you are aware, our Code of Conduct sets out school-wide standards of behaviour. These standards of behaviour apply to members of our community, whether they are on school property, at school-related events and activities or in other circumstances that could have an impact on the school culture. We work together to create a safe and supportive learning environment in which girls of all ages are able to prosper so they may achieve their full potential.

We will continue to be guided by our foundational values of inquiry, integrity, compassion and courage. We strive to teach and live these values in all that we do.

We appreciate your support in this matter and please contact me directly if you have any questions.

Yours sincerely,
Catherine Misson
Principal
