Dear Parents,

As you may have heard, late this afternoon the Ontario provincial government announced that all publicly funded Ontario schools have been ordered to remain closed effective Saturday, March 14 through to Sunday, April 5, 2020. This decision was issued by the Minister of Education and was approved by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. You can read more about this announcement here:

As the wellbeing of our community is a top priority, Havergal College will follow the directive from Queen’s Park and will be closed for an additional two weeks following the March Break until Monday, April 6.

During this time all academics, co-curricular activities, excursions and events will be cancelled until further notice. This includes the Father Daughter Dance, Upper School Bake Sale and the Upper School Parent-Teacher Conferences. We have been preparing for a potential campus shutdown and there are plans in place to support your daughter’s learning during the closure. Information regarding this plan will be communicated in the coming days. As we continue to monitor COVID-19 developments, we will be reviewing events as a whole and temporary academic provisions.

Taking this step is a necessary preventative measure to reduce and/or delay any transmission of COVID-19 in the community. At this time, we are not aware of anyone in the Havergal community who has tested positive for COVID-19 or has been suspected of having the virus.

As parents, we understand that you have many questions and concerns. The risk of transmission remains low and we encourage you to check Toronto Public Health, Public Health Ontario and the Public Health Agency of Canada for regular updates. We will be providing updates as they become available.

Thank you for patience and understanding,

Catherine Misson
