Since the Curling program started at Havergal in 2011, HC Curling teams have won several CISAA gold medals. However, 2019 is a special year. For the first time ever, Team Chen, made up entirely of Grads who have mostly been competing together since Grade 9, is playing in the CISAA Boys’ Division, as there are not enough all-girl teams in the league to establish a separate Girls’ Division.
During season play, Team Chen achieved a 4 and 1 win record, heading into playoffs this week tied for the top spot with Bayview Glen School (BVG). On Tuesday, Havergal beat BVG, meaning the team is headed straight to the Boys’ Division championship on March 1, where they will play either the co-ed BVG team, or St. Andrew’s College’s all-boys team.
Additionally, Havergal’s team will be representing CISAA Girls at OFSSA Curling next month, travelling to compete in North Bay over the March Break.
We are so proud of this phenomenal group of players; their dedication to the sport, to each other and to Havergal’s Curling program is legendary. Their legacy will undoubtedly endure as one of the most inspiring chapters in Havergal curling history.
