This weekend marked another fun and successful Celebration Saturday and Reunion Weekend at Havergal! The fun began at 9 am on Saturday, October 1, when the entire school community (including students in all grades, faculty, staff, parents, Old Girls and their families) gathered on the South Quad for the exciting Celebration Saturday kickoff. Highlights included speeches from Principal Helen-Kay Davy, Board Chair Barrie Laver and School Captain Erin Wong, followed by the entire school singing this year’s school cheer. After the opening ceremonies, the crowds took off to engage in all of the fun that Celebration Saturday brings. Since it was a rainy day, most of our activities were inside. Our younger guests had a great time exploring classic favourites like inflatables, pumpkin decorating and a haunted house. For those who were interested in shopping, we had a marketplace, live and silent auctions, a book sale and more. Anyone who was hungry had delicious food to choose from, including cookiegrams, chocolate-dipped strawberries at our Boarder table and food vendors like Smoke’s Poutinerie Toronto. There were many other highlights, including excellent performances by our students, the Havergal College Old Girls Association Beer Tent (where our exclusive Tanya Taylor t-shirts made their debut) and a special presentation from Mrs. Davy about the future of our school. We hope you enjoyed the day!
Thank you to everyone who came out in support of our community partnerships and to all of our parent volunteers! None of this could have been possible without your help.
Reunion Weekend continued later that evening with the Reunion Cocktail Party for Old Girls who graduated in classes ending in 1 and 6. More than 300 Old Girls attended the event, gathering in the Brenda Robson Hall to chat with their friends and teachers and enjoy some appetizers and drinks. Former Boarders enjoyed tours of Boarding, visiting their old rooms and sharing stories about their time as students. Each class had a party of their own afterward at a location off campus. The Havergal College Old Girls Association was pleased to welcome back so many Old Girls – some of whom were even dressed in uniform!
Sunday marked the end of Reunion Weekend 2016 with a chapel service and a special luncheon to honour the newest Cinquantenaires (Class of 1966).
We hoped that everyone had a great time this weekend. We look forward to more fun events for our community members throughout the school year!
