The Position
The Upper School program at Havergal College is distinguished by opportunities for students to develop and learn in an environment that is diverse, stimulating, and supportive. Teaching facilities are well equipped and offer bright, technology-rich environments.
Teachers at Havergal College are confident in curriculum development and demonstrate an approach to teaching that is reflective and understanding that students learn through active intellectual engagement. Specific Accountabilities
- Implements lesson plans provided by the homeroom teacher, ensuring the integrity of the programs is maintained, and takes place within the allotted time frame.
- Demonstrates effective classroom management.
- Understands and follows relevant school procedures (e.g., attendance, supervision) including emergency procedures.
- Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
- Completes a Supply Teacher Report Form.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the VP, Teaching & Learning, in accordance with school policies and practices.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- Relevant university qualifications at the Bachelor level (e.g. Bachelor of French Studies or French Language), including a Bachelor of Education/Master of Teaching degree with Intermediate/Senior qualifications in French Language.
- Certification from the Ontario College of Teachers and be a member in ‘Good Standing’.
- Must be a fluent French speaker.
- Non-practicum teaching experience is an asset.
- A comprehensive understanding of current Ministry of Ontario curriculum.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, time-management and communication skills.
- Well-developed classroom management skills; and
- The ability to take direction and to be open to feedback.
