QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates will have a university degree and appropriate teaching qualifications for secondary-level Mathematics; demonstrated success in teaching secondary-level Mathematics; an understanding of and sensitivity to the way in which girls learn; an ability to work in a collegial manner.
Candidates will be up-to-date on current curricular trends, technologically literate, involved in education beyond the classroom, including extracurricular involvement with students.

Senior Advancement Manager, Major & Planned Gifts

We are currently seeking an Senior Advancement Manager, Major & Planned Gifts to join our Advancement & Community Relations team. Reporting to the Director of Advancement & Community Relations (A&CR), the Senior Advancement Manager, Major & Planned Gifts is responsible for all activities related to Havergal’s Major Gifts and Planned Giving programs. The Senior Advancement Manager will work as a member of the A&CR team and will coordinate the Major Gift and Planned Giving programs within the framework of other A&CR activities.

Position Overview:

The Senior Advancement Manager, Major & Planned Gifts, is responsible for leading activities related to major gift fundraising for gifts of $25,000 or more and for growing the Planned Giving program at the school.  The following are the key responsibilities for the position:

a) 20% - With the Director, actively participate in the research, identification and qualification of major gift and planned giving prospects;

b) 20% - Create and implement both cultivation and solicitation strategies to support the major gift and planned giving programs;

c) 30% - Coordinate and manage successful donor visits and solicitations: this includes the
preparation of briefing documents and proposals; providing support and training for volunteers; and accompanying volunteers on calls as required;

d) 10% - Actively steward major donors who have made a gift to the school, ensuring they receive appropriate thanks and recognition;

e) 10% - Participate as a member of the Leadership Council of the Board and support every aspect of each member’s work:  proposal writing; scheduling lunches and other cultivation activities; organizing and supporting the Career Networking Day at the school; developing strategies; collating prospect research etc.

f) 10% - Participate as a member of the A&CR team and support its activities within the school.

The Senior Advancement Manager, Major & Planned Gifts, will understand and perform his/her duties according to the mission and values of Havergal College and work in a manner that will enhance the activities of the whole A&CR team.  The Senior Advancement Manager will serve as a contributing member where A&CR activities are concerned.  The Senior Advancement Manager will serve on a number of internal and volunteer committees and perform all other duties as assigned.  The Senior Advancement Manager, Major & Planned Gifts will handle all information ethically, accurately and confidentially.

Committees:  Leadership Council; Grad Class Family Gift Committee.

Knowledge Required:

Extremely important are the knowledge and ability to create, execute and/or support and oversee a comprehensive school-wide advancement plan; advising on complex and carefully orchestrated cultivation events and programs for the school’s major donors is of prime importance. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential. 

This position demands an ability to think strategically about donor engagement.  Excellent social skills, with large groups as well as with individuals, are required.

Proven ability to manage multi-phase projects from inception to completion, including the ability to build consensus among team members and balance multiple concurrent priorities is an asset.

It is necessary for the incumbent to possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.  Being detail-oriented, focused and goal-oriented, with a high level of energy is essential. Using good judgement in situations requiring independent initiative and tact is critical.

Education and Experience:

A bachelor’s degree is required with a minimum of  five years experience, preferably in higher education (or a comparably complex organization), in development and advancement services or a related field.  Previous experience interacting with donors is mandatory.  CFRE is preferred.

Responsibility:

Supervisory Controls

The incumbent has a high level of independence in accomplishing the responsibilities of the position.  Goals, priorities, and major projects are reviewed and discussed on an on-going basis with the Director of A&CR.

Guidelines

Guidelines are provided by the goals and objectives of the position, by fundraising strategies and techniques and by the goals of the A&CR office.  Confidentiality and discretion are expected.

Some travel, as well as evening/weekend work is required.

Security Officer (part-time, weekends)

Responsible for ensuring our safety and security and greeting visitors in a helpful manner, your experience in the operation of CCTV and card access systems is an asset and you must have an up-to-date criminal background check. The successful candidate will work weekends and provide vacation relief as required. You will be working a minimum of 24 hours per week guaranteed.  All candidates must be able to qualify for a security guard licence under the provincial Private Security and Investigative Services Branch.
