About Boarding

A World of Learning and Friendship
Boarders and their parents will tell you that the friendships and connections students form at Havergal are life-long. They will also highlight the tremendous academic advantages of being able to live and attend school at Havergal.

In the Boarding School, girls learn valuable life skills, such as self-sufficiency and decision-making that serve them well in achieving their academic and personal goals both at Havergal and in preparation for university.

At Havergal, we offer something to interest every girl including:
  • Expansive music, arts and athletics programs, and sports teams
  • Multitude of clubs, council and committee positions
  • Leadership opportunities within the Boarder community and within the School
  • Community service opportunities
  • Weekly program of events and activities developed exclusively for boarders
  • Social activities such as movie nights, in town and out of town excursions
  • Variety of extracurricular activities and excursions
  • Educational programs and time management courses

Boarders will be fully engaged in our student body. Boarders and day students get to know one another during orientation and through their shared school days, and by participating in school events, weekly assemblies, teams, clubs and other school activities. In addition, during Boarding Week, student leaders within the Boarding School plan special events and dinners for all Havergal Upper School students.



Boarders are in Good Hands

Small and supportive, the Boarding School offers some unique advantages to its residents. The residence Dons are dynamic young women with teaching and coaching responsibilities. Dons live in the Boarding School with the girls and are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each Boarder is a member of a family group headed by a Don and two Junior Dons (senior students). These “families” create a home-like atmosphere for Boarders—residence will feel like your home-away-from-home.

Living in residence allows boarding students to focus on their education in the Senior School. The boarders experience all the advantages of Havergal’s excellent academic and co-curricular programs and facilities, and benefit from extended access to school resources such as the library, computer labs and athletic centre, as well as supervised study time every evening.

Dons are in daily contact with the boarders and acts as an advisor, mentor, role model and leader. They help them with homework, lend an ear and supervise weekend activities to ensure the girls enjoy the boarding experience. The Dons act as liaisons between parents and teachers, guidance counsellors and Wellness Centre staff to ensure that each girl receives the care and support she needs to thrive at Havergal.

To help Boarders feel comfortable and secure, we provide around-the-clock security, on-site professional healthcare, excellent food services and a warm supportive family atmosphere. Every night, after study time, a range of physical activities are offered, including aerobics and yoga.
