A decision to close the school is not taken lightly. The safety of students, faculty and staff is a priority, and situation such as extreme weather conditions or the loss of essential services such as water and/or power require the school to close. The school consults the Environment Canada website and the Weather Channel as well as other schools in making a decision regarding school closure due to inclement weather.
Should it be decided school closure for the following day is necessary:
- Students, faculty and staff will be informed while at school.
- An email message will be sent to parents and the message will be posted on the portal: www.havergal.on.ca/login.
- Radio stations 680 News AM, CFRB 1010 FM, CHUM FM 104.5, CBC 99.1 FM and CityTV (Breakfast Television) will be informed.
- The recorded school telephone greeting will be changed to inform callers of the planned closure.
Should it be decided school closure is necessary prior to school opening:
- An email message will be sent to parents and the message will be posted on the portal: www.havergal.on.ca/login.
- Radio stations 680 News AM, CFRB 1010 FM, CHUM FM 104.5 and CBC 99.1 FM will be informed.
- The recorded school telephone greeting will be changed to inform callers of closure.
Should it be decided the school will close and send home Day Students during the day:
- An email message will be sent to parents and the message will be posted on the portal: www.havergal.on.ca/login.
- Students will be instructed to go to their Form or TA/House location where they or their teacher will connect with a parent to make arrangements for collection or dismissal from school.
- The recorded school telephone greeting will be changed to inform callers of closure.
- The safety and comfort of students is assured until such time as individual parents are reached and students are either picked up or dismissed with parental consent.
