Developing Global Capability
The Institute’s Global Experience Program will expose students to opportunities to engage in local and international initiatives.
Through local and international experiences, students will develop belief in their own abilities and in their capability to learn, acquire new skills and adapt to new situations. These experiences range from our after-school partnership programming to student-initiated partnerships that allow our students to share in the lives of young people in Toronto and around the world. Our programs seek to expose Havergal students to the perspectives and lives of others, enable students to engage in real-world problem solving and build direct and mutual partnerships to address a shared purpose.
A graduate of the Global Experience Program will see herself as globally capable. She will be confident in her ability to communicate with others effectively and she will have the tools to solve complex problems across demographics while realizing the important role that culture plays in our understanding of the world. Students will be encouraged to inhabit the spaces of others: experience where they work, live and play. This full immersion in the lives of others will serve to develop a student’s sense of self-efficacy while further developing the qualities necessary to be effective in developing relationships with anyone, anywhere and at any time.
At the heart of the Global Experience Program is a learning cycle. At Havergal, we believe students learn as much from the journey as from the destination. Each experience includes time to think, reflect, share and analyze. The programs focus on building global capability in these theme areas: culture; language and communication; and problem solving across demographics.
