Strategic Plan 2009–2014: A Culture of Capability Havergal College’s Strategic Plan 2009–2014 honours our history and keeps the Havergal mission and values at its core. At the same time, it sets a bold course for students and staff that reflects the times in which we live and the future that will shape and challenge us. The school has articulated concrete and measurable goals, strategies and action steps to guide our work as we move towards achieving our vision for the future.
The Strategic Plan focuses its attention on what is at the heart of the school—its students, faculty and staff. The Plan encompasses two overarching goals: the first is self-efficacy—a person’s belief in his/ her ability to accomplish a task, realize a goal or deal with any of life’s challenges. The self-efficacious possess deep and broad knowledge: they are adept at critical thinking and problem solving and they are self aware, good communicators, curious, resilient, adaptable and confident. The second goal is global capability, which is defined as the ability to be effective anywhere, anytime and with anyone. Havergal students, faculty and staff need to be globally aware and possess the knowledge and skills to lead effectively and sensitively in an increasingly interconnected world.
The Plan also identifies two interconnected strategies—The Whole Girl and Faculty & Staff as a Competitive Advantage—that will guide Havergal’s future initiatives. Each strategy has a set of specific objectives and actions that will inform community and individualized efforts. The overarching vision of our plan is to create a “culture of capability” in which every student feels empowered to believe that she has the capability to acquire the knowledge and skills she needs to pursue her dreams. The school’s Plan will set our students on their lifelong journey—and it will require the effort and involvement of everyone at Havergal.
