The Grade 6 students began their study of Canada’s First Nations peoples with a visit from Shannon Thunderbird. Through dramatic narratives, Ms. Thunderbird dispels the myths and replaces fiction with correct definitions and historical and cultural facts. The girls had the opportunity to handle artifacts and sacred objects such as turtle shells, animal furs, a medicine wheel, and dream catchers. The highlight of the presentation was experiencing Native instruments and song using authentic hand drums and shakers.
